SIMPLY VANILLA®

Symrise has pioneered the development of vanilla, from the invention of vanillin in 1874 until the present, where the company is the world’s only flavor manufacturer offering full backward integration, its own sourcing and proven sustainability in the vanilla segment. Symrise is now the world's leading supplier of vanilla for the food industry.

simply vanilla® is our umbrella brand for all our vanilla expertise in the fields of Consumer Insights, R&D, Marketing, Service, Innovation, Application and Delivery. It is a simple answer to a complex taste question that allows us to do the following:

  • Unlock the complexity of vanilla for our customers and exploit it for the creation of new products
  • Cover all market segments, from mass marketed products to luxury goods
  • Establish a brand's unique fingerprint
  • Provide a secure supply, secure prices and secure quality independent of market volatility
  • Deliver short innovation cycles
  • Identify and serve consumer trends

Our comprehensive portfolio includes vanilla extracts, fair-trade vanilla extracts, organic vanilla extracts, natural vanilla flavorings, nature-identical flavorings and alternative vanilla products. Synthetic vanillin is no longer manufactured.

In addition to our flavorings portfolio, we also offer numerous services revolving around vanilla: the company's flavorists work closely with customers to develop customized formulations. The company's in-house Sensory Analysis Department studies the sensory properties that products develop within their corresponding formulations. We use analytical laboratories with cutting-edge equipment and rely on strategic market and consumer research.

The ability to monitor the source of raw materials is a key tool for securing the quality of the final product. Today, Symrise is the only flavor manufacturer with fully backwards-integrated vanilla production. At our sites in Madagascar, we cooperate with about 300 local farmers; our experts work side-by-side with farmers throughout the entire life cycle of the vanilla plant, up to and including harvest, thus allowing the company to influence the future flavor properties of the beans at any strategic point along the way.

The Sensory & Consumer Science Department at Symrise conducts systematic market and consumer research, utilizing scientific methods and the most modern survey techniques available – vanilla, of course, does not escape scrutiny. Symrise can tailor market research specifically to the needs and concerns of its customers. These studies include sensory product tests in which trained testers evaluate the sensory profile of a product, i.e., its taste, aroma and haptic properties.
