Broad Spectrum Preservative for Cosmetic Applications: Symrise Launches SymOcide® PS

Symrise has added SymOcide® PS to its portfolio of preservatives. The broad-spectrum preservative system complies with the legal regulations of most countries. Cosmetic manufacturers can use it for a multitude of cosmetic applications, such as creams, lotions, shampoos and decorative cosmetics.
Consumers are increasingly demanding skin-friendly and safe cosmetic products. This means that cosmetic formulators face a number of challenges in the selection of preservatives. Symrise has been conducting research into this in order to satisfy the demand for effective and economically viable preservatives.
The solution: SymOcide® PS, a synergistic mixture of the preservative phenoxyethanol and1,2-alkanediol: This patent-pending broad-spectrum preservative system is suitable for versatile use. SymOcide® PS helps to keep down the amount of preservatives necessary in the formulation and avoid the use of parabens and formaldehyde donors, for instance. All ingredients have a good safety profile and many years history of use.
It works in leave-on products, such as creams and lotions, as well as rinse-off products, like shampoos and shower gels. Because it is miscible with lipophilic ingredients, such as cosmetic esters, it can also be used as a preservative in waterless formulations like decorative cosmetics.
Other benefits the product offers: It is a clear liquid which is easy to handle and formulate, hence no heating is required during production. Excellent stability at both high and low pH values and temperatures makes it compatible with most cosmetic ingredients and suitable for many types of packaging. SymOcide® PS complies with the cosmetics regulations in nearly all countries, including the US, Europe and Japan.
