Half of all the world’s oranges grow here, half of the world’s orange juice is squeezed here, and this is where Symrise has opened its Global Citrus Center. Sorocaba is located at the heart of Brazil’s citrus belt, in direct proximity to the world’s most important region for growing citrus fruits of the highest quality. Through immediate access to excellent raw materials and the development of its own innovative technologies, Symrise will continue to build on its market position in the field of citrus flavorings.
Spray-drying capacities have been tripled and an environmentally friendly thermal oxidation facility installed. With the aid of additional distillation equipment, citrus specialties can be made on a production scale. The Global Citrus Center will develop and manufacture novel citrus flavorings and products such as terpenes, washings, citrus oil extracts, poly-concentrated citrus oils, fractionated specialties, spray-dried emulsions, fruit powder and extracts.

Symrise is further extending its expertise in the field of natural citrus flavoring
With The Global Citrus Center, Symrise seeks to offer its clients even better service: highly qualified scientists and the latest innovative technologies will ensure that quality and the sensorial properties of natural flavorings will continue to improve.
Erlon Pereira, Global Director of Citrus Business Development at Symrise, outlines the strategy: “Our goal is to keep enhancing the authenticity, sensory properties and quality levels of the natural citrus flavorings in the Symrise portfolio so as to guarantee our clients a reliable long-term supply and to optimize the value-added chain for citrus with a special emphasis on environmental sustainability. We aim to create products inspired by research into prospective mega trends. Our Naturally Citrus® brand represents a wide variety of products and technologies. Our wide range of citrus flavorings and ingredients allows our customers to reinvent their brands by adding emotional and sensorial values!”
Hans Holger Gliewe, President of the Latin American region for Symrise, Flavor & Nutrition, adds: “Brazil and Argentina have become the most important region producing citrus fruits – Brazil now yields more than twice as many fruits as Florida. In Sorocaba, we not only benefit from good weather all year round and a network of reliable business partners, but also from our energy supply there, which set to remain stable for the foreseeable. Having direct proximity to Argentina, one of the most important processors of lemons, is also a major consideration for us.”
