Symrise Policies

Symrise Environmental Program

Symrise is a global supplier of fragrances, flavorings, cosmetic active ingredients and raw materials, as well as functional ingredients. Its clients include manufacturers of perfumes, cosmetics, food and beverages, the pharmaceutical industry and producers of nutritional supplements and pet food.

Symrise is aware of the importance of sustainable development of environment and society and therefore developed a comprehensive program on all manufacturing sites. It comprises the following points:

  • A senior manager responsible for environmental management is nominated on each site. This manager aims to reduce the environmental impact of activities, products and services. This includes targets for reducing waste, air emissions and energy usage, making sure all local laws and regulations are met.

  • Significant environmental impacts are identified and assessed. This includes:

    • Impact of water usage and evaluation if sites are located in water-stressed areas
    • Potential pollution risks coming from processes that might contaminate atmosphere, water, soil or local biodiversity

  • Symrise measures the environmental impact of its products
  • Management procedures are in place if a pollution incident occurs
  • Managing our impact on water quality and waste water discharged
  • The storage, discharge and disposal of waste, as well as waste water and exhaust are specified in written procedures

Compliance with management guidelines and country-specific legislation is reviewed by the internal IMS and corporate audit. The annual audit plan takes every process in the management system into account. Internal IMS audits are carried out in accordance with ISO standard 19011. External audits conducted by customers, authorities and independent certification organizations confirm the ongoing improvement of Symrise’s management systems.

  • There are written procedures to identify and assess health and safety risks in place, on how to maintain and use equipment safely and on safe storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials. In addition, there is a written procedure and training on emergency evacuation at every site.
  • All employees receive health and safety trainings customized to their job profiles
