— Acknowledges measures to conserve resources

— Finalist in the category “Special Award for Resource Efficiency”

— Nominated for the second time after winning the German Sustain-ability Award 2012

Together with the German government, the German Sustainability Award Foundation has nominated Symrise AG for its measures taken toward conservation of resources. With this nomination, the company is one of this year’s three finalists in the category “Special Award for Resource Ef-ficiency.” With cutting-edge concepts for more efficiency in the value chain, Symrise lives corporate responsibility and secures its business success for the future.

For the seventh time, the German Sustainability Award is recognizing compa-nies which fulfill the principles of sustainable business activities and combine economic success with social responsibility and environmental protection in an exemplary manner. The award will be presented at the evening event following the German Sustainability Day on November 28, 2014. Symrise applied for the “Special Award for Resource Efficiency” category and has now been invited to the awards ceremony in Düsseldorf as one of the three finalists. “We are very excited about the nomination. It confirms that we have successfully integrated sustainability into our business model,” explains Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, CEO of Symrise AG. “We define our sustainability goals along the entire value chain, do pioneering work in each segment and put great emphasis on cooperation with partners. This creates a common set of values for Symrise, its suppliers and customers as well as society and the environment.

Resource Efficiency along the Value Chain

Symrise contributes to meeting the demands of a growing world population for health and hygiene. Efficiency is a key focus, because, because this is where Symrise can have the most impact on its own sustainable development and that of society.

Whenever possible, Symrise sources its most important raw materials locally for each of its international production sites. The company purchases regionally, is integrated in the local economy, produces on site and creates added value for all stakeholders. Symrise’s strategic backward integration makes it a role model for efficiency. For example: Onions, Symrise’s most frequently used natural raw material, are grown locally. The cooperation with contracted farmers guarantees quality and availability, while reducing transport and storage costs.

Symrise uses innovative processes to increase efficiency in energy-intensive manufacturing processes. In this way, Symrise helps to counteract climate change and saves resources. A great opportunity: Sustainable products and efficient processes ensure the company’s success and benefit the environment and society.

About the German Sustainability Award

The German Sustainability Award (GSA) is one of the most prestigious prizes of its kind in Europe, recognizing outstanding achievements in sustainability. Since 2008, it has partnered with the German government, trade associations, civic organizations and scientific institutes to raise awareness about this vital issue through the awards and the awards ceremony. The GSA goes to leading companies that prove business success is compatible with social responsibility and environmental stewardship, to cities and towns that find unique ways to uphold the principles of a sustainable society with limited resources, and breakthrough innovations that take sustainable development to the next level, as well as to celebrities who use their media prominence to garner attention for humanitarian and environmental causes. The GSA was conceived to inspire decision makers in the private and public sector to advocate for sustainability. It invites all relevant stakeholder groups to the table when it deliberates and debates, and its methodology team, board of trustees and jury – as well as the presenters at its events – represents a broad cross-section of interests from business, politics, science and society.
