And Symrise was among the sponsors for the event. The education and promotion of young women is one of the elements within its sustainability agenda. Wherever possible, it encourages them to realize their full potential with a number of initiatives.
Girls from 29 states and 11 countries were invited to build the confidence to seize the moment, learn the skills to make their voices heard, and finally take their message to their members of Congress – all to help support the empowerment of girls in developing countries. Girls heard from a variety of speakers including business leaders, celebrities, development leaders, Girl Up Teen Advisors and First Lady Michelle Obama.
“On behalf of Girl Up, I wanted to express our sincerest gratitude for your support of our 2015 Leadership Summit. This year’s summit convened some of the brightest and most passionate thought leaders and champions of adolescent girls”, says Melissa Hillebrenner, Director of Girl Up.
“Thank you Symrise. Your support helped us make the 2015 Leadership Summit the largest in history. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of girls. I look forward to continuing our partnership and working together to change the world.”
The summit ended with an advocacy day, meeting with members of Congress and speaking with them on expanding refugee girls’ access to education around the world. Participants raised their voices and spread the Girl Up message through over 160 meetings on Capitol Hill.
