— Prizes for a natural active ingredient and an environmentally friendly modern hygiene technology
— Award ceremony in Amsterdam

In 2018, two Symrise developments were awarded with the renowned BSB Innovation Prize: The multifunctional active dedicated to personal hygiene SymGuard® CD reached the first place in the category “Most Innovative Raw Materials – Functionals.” The ingredient SymControlTM Care won second place in the category “Most Innovative Raw Materials – Actives.” The prizes attest the Holzminden-based company a leading position in the creation and development of cosmetic ingredients.

The independent consulting bureau BSB has been awarding this prestigious prize for innovation since 2003. Two representatives of the company accepted the awards for the new developments in their areas of responsibility at the Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club.

Environmentally friendly personal hygiene technology for many cosmetic applications

SymGuard® CD fulfills many functions at the same time: The fast-acting antibacterial ingredient protects the cosmetic product and the skin of the consumer in products for personal wash, hand gels, deodorants and oral care. The product does not contain organohalogens and therefore offers a sustainable alternative to traditional ingredients such as Triclosan or Triclocarban.

“Symrise sees itself as an innovation leader and takes comprehensive measures to keep its impact on the environment as minimal as possible,” summarized Dr. Florian Genrich, Senior Global Product Manager of the Micro Protection category in the Cosmetic Ingredients division. “When we develop an idea, we show just how deeply nature, the environment, and sustainable processes and resources are embedded into the mentality of our company. This enables us to fulfill the desires of many of our customers, and we are proud to have achieved this with SymGuard® CD that respects nature by being biodegradable.”

Green Algae Control the Production of Sebum

SymControlTM Care is a product from blue biotechnology, i.e. the biotechnological production with natural components from marine origin. The active ingredient is extracted from a Mediterranean green microalga and fulfills many purposes simultaneously: It has been shown to significantly make your skin look less oily; it calms the skin and strengthens the skin barrier. This makes SymControlTM Care particularly appropriate for cosmetic products caring for oily yet sensitive skin types.

Dr. Marielle Le Maire, Global Category Director Actives in the Cosmetic Ingredients division, accepted the award and said: “Our research focusses on providing natural active ingredients that allow our customers to fulfil special consumer needs. The area of biotechnology in particular offers tremendous potential for innovation for natural ingredients. The prize shows that Symrise is making crucial headway in this discipline.”
