Symrise has appointed four Master Perfumers and also honored three Senior Perfumers with Special Awards. With their creative skills, the fragrant seven have considerably contributed to the success of the Symrise Fragrance Division by creating many unique winning fragrances.

During a festive ceremony on the eve of 23 November 2015, Achim Daub, President Scent & Care Symrise, awarded seven perfumers for their outstanding achievements at Symrise. “Symrise is continually building its perfumery capabilities with the aim to become the most admired fragrance company in the industry. To achieve this, we are continuously developing and promoting our best talents. This ambition also includes having the best Perfumery School of the industry. Therefore, I am feeling very privileged to honor seven of our most skilled perfumers for their contribution to the success and future of Symrise.”

Four Master Perfumers

Dirk Braun has been with Symrise for more than 30 years and graduated from the Symrise Perfumery School. He is a true cosmopolite having worked in Germany, France, the US, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Brazil and China. In his work, he has shown a tremendous capability to create and win business across a wide variety of product applications. Dirk Braun’s work has been recognized with Perfumer Choice awards in five categories. Dirk Braun on his appointment: “Part of the success is for sure our focus on the global creative network. The teamwork with colleagues of so many different countries and cultures is a lot of fun and always a great inspiration on a professional and personal level.”

Emilie Coppermann became a member of the Symrise family in 1998. She lives and works in Paris and is a graduate of the renowned ISIPCA. Emilie dedicates her mastery and passion to the category of Fine Fragrance where she Iooks back at an impressive track record of amazing wins. She also spent time to work in Brazil and in the Fine Fragrance Studio in NYC. Emilie Coppermann is a recipient of the Prix Lalique of the Talents du Luxe award in 2012. She expresses her thanks for the award: “It was extremely touching for me to be appointed Master Perfumer. I would like to sincerely thank Symrise for giving me the opportunity and the means to advance in my career.”

Elke Dörrier has been with Symrise for 43 years. After having concluded her perfumery training with the company, she has worked in several locations, including New York, Geneva and Paris. She has a tremendous capability to create and win business across a wide variety of product applications, including household, fine fragrance and personal care where she has created a strong legacy of outstanding fragrance creations tor Symrise. “Receiving a 'Master Perfumer' Award in wonderful surroundings seeped in Perfumery history, and in the company of some of my closest colleagues, was one of the most emotional experiences in my career with Symrise”, says Elke Dörrier.

Clito Hödicke started his career with Symrise in 1992 and has been working for the company for 23 years. After his 4.5 years of perfumery training, he has worked in various locations: Columbia, Paris and Mexico. He is a major contributor to the outstanding success of our fragrance division across all of Latin America as well as to many global and key regional projects in other regions. Clito Hödicke has been creating and winning business in all major categories and application areas. "When Symrise started as a company the entrepreneurship and own initiative of the employees made the difference and was always an important key driver for success of our company”, explains Clito Hödicke. “I'm very grateful, since Symrise made me feel always being a part of it!"

Three Special Awards

Pierre Kurzenne received a Special Award as R&D Senior Perfumer for his collaboration with R&D in identifying and experimenting with new Symrise fragrance materials and actively promoting them to Symrise perfumers and clients. He started his career with Symrise in 1997, where he was given the chance of becoming a Perfumer. Pierre lives and works in Paris and is specialized in Personal Care. "I am very grateful for this award”, states Pierre Kurzene. “It is a pleasure to work in such a team spirit in order to develop the future winning new technology and molecules."

Uwe Schaar received a Special Award Global Fragrances & lngredients for his extensive knowledge about perfumery materials and his skills and dedication in continuously shaping the global fragrance materials pallet. He started his career at Symrise in 1979 and was selected for the Perfumery training in 1982. In 1999, Uwe Schaar moved to Technical Perfumery. He became Senior Technical Perfumer and Global Fragrances Ingredient Management (GFIM) Director in 2010. “Designing and managing the Symrise ingredients palette is a major and exciting responsibility. Our aim is to create a library of unique and innovative raw materials based on renewable resources. I am enjoying the passionate contribution of Symrise most creative and experienced Perfumers from around the world”, comments Uwe Schaar.

Mathias Werner received a Special Award Perfumery School Principal. He has made strong contributions towards shaping the Symrise Perfumery School Program teaching both creativity and technical understanding and developing future perfumery talents. He started his career at Symrise in 1978. In 1981, he was selected for the perfumery training. He has worked in Hamburg and Holzminden. Mathias Werner started in Fine Fragrance and Beauty care. Today, he successfully works on home care projects. “Teaching and mentoring our young talents is very inspiring as new generations tend to have their own olfactory preferences and fresh views on how to approach creation. They are also very open-minded and I could implement innovative global e-tuition tools”, states Mathias Werner.

All seven perfumers share the gift of being able to create exceptional compositions and generate new scent ideas. Their extensive knowledge of in-house materials allows them to give their ideas an individual Symrise fingerprint. They also know the international markets. Thus, all of the honorees have realized successful perfume creations with global clients. They have thoroughly used the perfumer’s network of Symrise to share their expertise and, thereby, continuously expanded it. Apart from that, they particularly like to share their skills with young talents and to mentor and coach them so that they become experienced scent experts.
