Goodman, a globally leading owner, developer and manager of logistics properties, and its customer, Symrise, have celebrated the topping out of a new 12,700 m2 logistics center in the Altenwerder freight village at the Port of Hamburg. About 80 guests attended the ceremony, including representatives of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA). Symrise, a provider of fragrances and flavors, will use a 7,100 m2 unit for the international sale of its products. A second 5,600 m2 unit is still available in Goodman’s logistics center.

Built for Symrise, the modern facility provides a high-quality logistics area, a generous number of loading bays as well as offices and meeting spaces. For the building’s design, Goodman took into account the needs of its customers as well as the highest sustainability standards – such as the German Federal Water Act (Wasserhaushaltsgesetz – WHG). In addition to the modern equipment of the logistics property, Symrise benefits from the well-developed logistics infrastructure of the Altenwerder freight village. It boasts a direct connection to the A7 freeway and is in close proximity to the Altenwerder container terminal – one of the most modern in the world.

“Symrise/Symotion will be optimizing its international services in 160 countries thanks to its logistics center in the Port of Hamburg. Thanks to its proximity to the port, the inbound logistics for raw materials can be ideally combined with the export of Symrise products. With the new location, we will be able to drastically reduce the number of preliminary and subsequent legs on the road,” says Reinhard Nowak, Managing Director of Symotion, the wholly-owned logistics subsidiary of Symrise AG. “Goodman is a reliable and experienced partner who was able to develop a high-quality logistics area for us within a very short time,” he continues.

“We are delighted that we were able to convince Symrise of the benefits of our own+develop+manage business model. Thanks to the good cooperation of the city of Hamburg and the Hamburg Port Authority, we have achieved an important project development milestone for Symrise and for other customers,” explains Christof Prange, Head of Business Development for Goodman in Germany.

Hamburg: Germany’s Top Logistics Location

Hamburg was named the most attractive of 28 logistics regions in Germany in the recent study “Logistik + Immobilien 2016” conducted by the analytics company bulwiengesa. In the first half of 2016, 225,000 m2 of logistics space was marketed, including the logistics park Goodman Interlink Hamburg in neighboring Finkenwerder. These were completely rented out after twelve months. In mid-March 2017, Goodman, Airbus and the Satair Group celebrated the official opening.

“We are delighted to welcome a new company to the Port of Hamburg in Symrise. I am sure that the company will sustainably benefit from the modern infrastructure and realize its ambitious goals. The sustained popularity of the logistics center highlights the potential for success our strategy brings to future-oriented port management,” explains Uwe Weidemann, Head of Sales and Project Development Port Estate at the Hamburg Port Authority.

More Space Available

Starting in summer 2017, an additional 5,600 m2 of logistics space with high-quality furnishings will be available in the same property where the Symrise unit is located. This second unit comes with about 100 m2 of office and meeting space and a 600 m2 mezzanine area. The property design allows for flexible use – for instance, cross-dock logistics and the management of an open-air warehouse are possible. Furthermore, Goodman has built the property in compliance with sustainable building standards and equipped it with a continuous window strip on the mezzanine floor to optimize the use of daylight. To reduce energy consumption, Goodman uses LED lighting. The foundation slab is sealed with a WHG seal and is suitable for the storage of goods with a water hazard class 3 rating (WGK 3).
