Scent & Care | Corporate

Symrise Scent & Care has a clear ambition: To create a comprehensive library of raw materials and ingredients based on renewable resources. The acquisition of Pinova Holdings, Inc. (Brunswick, Georgia, USA), one of the leading suppliers of ingredients made from natural feedstock, allows Symrise to further pursue this vision of sustainability. The take-over not only gives Symrise access to high-quality ingredients for perfumes and oral care products, it also unlocks fresh creativity.

Award-winning innovation and perfumery expertise on one side, and a sound, sustainable library of ingredients on the other: these are the strengths of Symrise’s Fragrance Division. These capabilities have just been boosted even fur-ther through the acquisition of the US-company Pinova Holdings, a move that sees Symrise catapulting itself to the top position in the fragrance ingredients industry. For the past few years, Symrise has focused on further honing and developing the company’s creative perfumery resources. The company has complemented its dedicated creative teams in Europe, Asia, South and North America, and opened new and upgraded existing creative centers in Sao Paulo, Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, and Shanghai. It has also recruited numerous internationally renowned and highly talented perfumers further strengthening its existing teams. And Symrise has continued to invest in its in-house perfumery school which enjoys an outstanding global reputation. All of these activities see Symrise continuing to  build on the strong perfumery heritage, which extends as far back as the 19th century to Symrise’s predecessor companies such as De Laire, Lautier et fils, Créations Aromatiques, Florasynth, H&R, and Dragoco.

When it comes to sustainability and renewable ingredients Symrise has long been a pioneer in the industry; the Group’s activities in this area extend from the early vanilla initiative in Madagascar to the most recent examples of its commitment to sustainability, such as the Symrise Amazon Program in Brazil, where it has built a dedicated infrastructure to develop innovative, natural ingredients for perfumery from the rich biodiversity of the Amazonian Rain Forest in tight collaboration with local partners and communities of indigenous people.

Achim Daub, Symrise President Scent & Care, described the Group’s vision in this field: “Substances from natural, renewable sources are becoming increasingly important for the fragrance industry. Our aim is to create a library of unique and innovative raw materials based on renewable resources. Our own initiatives perfectly complement the large-volume fragrance ingredients based on renewable feedstock that Pinova/Renessenz produces. The acquisition not only allows us to offer greater variety and increases our supply chain security; our broader portfolio also provides an outstanding source for new inspiration for the creation of perfumes and fragrances and hones our competitive edge by enabling us to offer truly unrivaled creations. We are well on our way to build one of the best and most admired fragrance companies in the industry”
