— PCHi Innovation Award (Active Ingredients) for SymCare® – ready-made for sensitive Skin

— PCHi Innovation Award (Active Ingredients) for SymMollient® W/S – proven soothing efficacy

— Focus on consumer preferences in Asia

Two cosmetic ingredients from Symrise took home a PCHi Innovation Award 2016 for Active Ingredients. SymCare® addresses the needs of sensitive skin and is suitable for use in face and body care products. SymMollient® W/S soothes the skin. Visitors to the PCHi could get information about solutions for sensitive skin, anti-pollution, skin brightening and product protection. These topics are highly relevant among Asian consumers.

In Asia, consumers expect their cosmetic products to care for their skin in a very gentle way. Ingredients dedicated to sensitive skin conditions or soothing characteristics with a high level of innovation are very well perceived in countries in Asia. Once a year, the PCHi Innovation Awards honor those products that have proven both their effectiveness and relevance for the Asian market.

At the Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) 2016 trade show, Symrise received two of the prestigious Innovation Awards – one for SymCare® and one for SymMollient® W/S. The awards were presented during a festive ceremony in the Shanghai Intercontinental hotel on the second day of the PCHi.

SymCare® is a ready-made solution for sensitive skin. For the development Symrise took a holistic approach by combining active ingredients addressing the major identified consumer needs linked to sensitive skin. SymCare® has been designed to soothe and prevent discomfort. It can also support the skin in repairing and strengthening its barrier, reduce redness and discomfort as well as offer relieving and moisturizing properties. Its efficacy was proven in a consumer study that was completed under the control of a dermatologist. For easy formulation 2 versions are available: SymCare® O which is oil-soluble and SymCare® W2 for easy use as a water-soluble component.

SymMollient® W/S addresses a global consumer concern. When purchasing a cosmetic product, people first want to make sure that the product does not irritate or otherwise adversely affect their skin or scalp. SymMollient® W/S acts as a soothing agent on scalp and skin. Symrise provides it as an optimized aqueous blend that can easily be incorporated in either surfactant-based rinse-off formulations or in the water phase of leave-on emulsions. Its efficacy was substantiated in a clinical study of a shampoo at a level of 2%.

During the trade show, Symrise provided visitors with detailed information on both winning products. In addition to these, the Cosmetic Ingredients team from Asia presented concepts, solutions and formulation examples for sensitive skin, anti-pollution, skin brightening and product protection. All of these are highly relevant for consumers in the Asian markets.

“We are very proud to have won two PCHi Innovation Awards at this year’s trade show. Both ingredients address a hot topic among Asian consumers. They very much care about a balanced condition of their skin. Thus, Symrise offers skin-soothing solutions that help give skin a silky smooth feeling,” says Chung Sin Wong, Vice President Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients Division Asia Pacific. “The requirements of consumers have changed over the years due to the massive amount of information available on the internet. Asian consumers can choose from a huge variety of products and they prefer those that exactly match their needs. This encourages us to further research ingredients and develop products that are suitable for Asian skin types.”
