— Beiersdorf Pearlfinder Innovation Award for concepts with Ecoparque raw materials

— BSB Awards for cosmetic ingredients

Symrise recently won four renowned awards for its cosmetic ingredients. Concepts with raw materials from the Brazilian Ecoparque were recognized with the Beiersdorf Pearlfinder Innovation Award. Symrise also took two second-place spots and one third-place honor at this yearʼs BSB Innovation Awards.

“We are proud to have won the Beiersdorf Pearlfinder Innovation Award as well as three BSB Awards,” explains Dr. Daniel Ibarra, Vice President Cosmetic Ingredients EAME at Symrise. “The concepts and products from Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients meet the demands of our customers. These in turn have to meet the high expectations of consumers for modern and sophisticated cosmetics. Such recognition encourages and motivates us to continue developing effective ingredients that are appreciated by consumers.”

Pearlfinder Innovation Award for Brazilian Ecoparque Raw Materials
Three years ago, Beiersdorf has launched its Open Innovation Network “Pearlfinder.” The online tool enables companies to submit cosmetic product concepts. If a companyʼs products and concepts pique Beiersdorfʼs interest, it gets invited to present its proposals at the In-Cosmetics trade show. During this year’s Innovation Pitch in Barcelona, the Symrise team presented product ideas with ingredients from the Ecoparque in the northern Amazon region. Both the Brazilian plant extracts and the creative formulations convinced the panel and won one of the three coveted Pearlfinder Innovation Awards, which were handed out at a formal ceremony.

BSB Awards: Innovation Recognized for Three Cosmetic Ingredients
SymOcide® PH took second place in the category “Most Innovative Raw Material Functionals/Recipients.” The product is a skin-friendly liquid broad spectrum preservative blend suitable for cold process formulations like shampoos, wet wipes and lotions. SymOcide® PH components have both antioxidant and emollient properties.

Also awarded second place was SymTio® S in the category “Most Innovative Raw Material Actives/Naturals.” When used in sun care cosmetics, SymTio® S reduces the likelihood of leaving a white film on the skin after application. Furthermore, it improves the skin feel of sun care formulations. To accomplish this, Symrise coats micro fine titanium dioxide with an ester of Cetearyl Nonanoat. The product has been registered for a patent.

In the category “Most Innovative Natural Products/Raw Materials,” the fresh plant juices from Symrise won the third place. The efficacy of plant juices has long been known and in-vitro tests show that the new Symrise products have particularly high antioxidant capabilities as well as skin-soothing properties. Pressed ginger juice even shows skin-brightening effects. The new products from the successful Actipone® product group are made from freshly pressed plants that are processed directly after harvest without the use of extraction agents. Dandelion, horsetail, melissa, ribwort and nettles are grown and harvested in Germany – their origin can be fully traced. High-quality ginger from Sri Lanka rounds out the portfolio. Most of the Actipone® products are also certified organic.
