— Canapure® (CBD) meets the quality requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
— Holzminden-based group also presents sustainable menthol

Symrise presented a top-class new development at the CPhI in Frankfurt am Main: Canapure®. The cannabidiol (CBD) is identical to nature and complies with the guidelines of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), which govern rules of good pharmaceutical manufacturing practice including hygiene requirements and monitoring. Canapure® serves as both a valuable active pharmaceutical ingredient and as an intermediate product for new substances. Symrise also presented various varieties of sustainable menthols at the trade show.

With more than 45,000 industry visitors and 2,500 exhibitors from around 150 countries , CPhI is regarded as the leading international trade show for the pharmaceutical industry. The Symrise Aroma Molecules team, which staffed a booth during the three-day event, presented the Holzminden-based group’s specialist product portfolio. Symrise launched one innovation that particularly fascinated the visitors: Canapure®, a cannabinoid produced under GMP conditions that is available independent of harvest conditions. The active ingredient, manufactured to be nature identical, is 100 % similar to the natural, non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD), which is said to have a relaxing, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic and nausea-relieving effect. Thanks to its synthetic production, Canapure® is free of pesticides, weed killers and other environmental impurities, thus meeting the increasing expectation of consumers.

“Quality assurance plays an important role in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, as even the smallest deviations can have a direct impact on consumer health,” says Silke Hilmer, Director Global Marketing Aroma Molecules at Symrise. “GMP-compliant quality management ensures high product quality and compliance with legal requirements.”

Sustainable menthol also meets quality guidelines

In addition to cannabidiol, Symrise produces various types of menthol under GMP conditions. The ingredients convince with a high degree of purity and reliability in applications. They can be used in sports gels, ointments, massage oil, bandages, cough medicine, nasal spray and veterinary products among others.

“With increasing health awareness among the population, the demand for functional health products is likely to rise in the future,” says Andreas Engelbrecht, Director Global Marketing Aroma Molecules at Symrise. “At the same time, more and more people are looking for sustainability factors when shopping. It works to our advantage that menthol production at Symrise is very environmentally friendly.”
