From Holzminden around the globe: how Symrise celebrates World Vanilla Day
A day dedicated to vanilla – around the earth. On April 10, Symrise celebrated the first official World Vanilla Day. Starting in Holzminden, this special day celebrates the first vanillin synthesis 150 years ago.
On April 10, 1874, the chemists Wilhelm Haarmann and Ferdinand Tiemann obtained their patent for the synthetic production of vanillin – the birth of the flavor and fragrance industry. 150 years later, Symrise celebrated the 1st World Vanilla Day on April 10, 2024, marking the start of the "150 years of innovation" campaign.
"This is an important day for us. It is a celebration of 150 years of mastering vanilla at Symrise. We can be proud of the knowledge we have at Symrise," says Laurent Deniau, Global Director – Vanilla & Botanicals at Symrise.
In Holzminden, the employees were surprised with a vanilla pod and other goodies. Special vanilla-related dishes were on the menu in the canteen all week, along with free vanilla ice cream and lots of exciting information about vanilla production.
But World Vanilla Day was not only celebrated at the company headquarters; Symrise employees around the world joined in the celebrations: From China to Latin and North America, all the way to Madagascar, one of the leading vanilla-producing countries – everyone had vanilla fever.
