Most people use sunscreen mainly in summer or spring for outdoor activities. But who uses these products and why? We show you some interesting facts and figures about consumer use.

Sunscreens are primarily used in the 20-50 age group, especially by women. 20 percent of all men even state that they never apply sunscreen. So there is still a need for education, especially among younger people and the male target group.

There are many reasons for using sunscreen: the most important ones for consumers are avoiding sunburn and reducing the risk of skin cancer. Preventing sun spots and pimples and avoiding wrinkles also play a role for almost half of users.

When it comes to sunscreen textures, lotions are the most popular, followed by creams and sprays. There are different preferences depending on skin type and skin color. People with oily or combination skin prefer light textures such as lotions, serums, sprays or liquid consistencies. Darker skin tones tend to prefer gels and serums.

When it comes to the Sun Protection Factor, the majority of users (60 percent) prefer products with an SPF between 30 and 50. 32 percent also prefer an SPF of over 50.
