Our stories

Symrise has been pursuing ambitious sustainability goals for many years.
The company has often achieved this much earlier than
planned. The underlying initiatives have made Symrise a pioneer in the industry.

The Group began early on to create a broad framework of topics and areas to position itself sustainably in the medium and long term – while continuing to operate successfully. Symrise issued its first sustainability report back in 2010. Since then, the company has received numerous prestigious (national and international) sustainability awards and sustainability ratings.

In recent years, the Group has divided its own sustainability activities into four areas: Environment (Footprint), Procurement (Sourcing), Research and Development (Innovation) and Employees and Social Affairs (Care). In these four areas, the company is making a transparent and effective contribution to achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

The focus of current activities is on climate neutrality. We intend to be completely climate neutral by 2045, and this includes raw materials that we source from suppliers. We plan to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions to such a low level that we will be climate neutral in this area in 2030.

We are also focusing on topics such as socially responsible and environmentally friendly raw material procurement, biodiversity, circular economy and backward integration, always with the aim of operating sustainably and protecting the rich biodiversity, around the world. All activities focus on the conscious and responsible economic use of raw materials, an effort that benefits Symrise as well as natural environments and the people who live there.
