UV radiation is classified into three types: UVA, UVB and UVC. While UVC is absorbed by the ozone layer, UVA and UVB reach the earth's surface and affect human health. UVA rays are the lower-energy part of UV radiation and can contribute significantly to reddening of the skin and long-term skin damage. UVB rays are the main cause of sunburn and tend to damage the upper layers of the skin. UVB also contributes significantly to the development of skin cancer.
Symrise recently expanded one part of its portfolio with the two modern organic UV absorbers Neo Heliopan® EHT, a highly effective UVB filter and Neo Heliopan® 354, an effective UVA filter.
